The story behind Aeldfire
Aeldfire was born from the longtime collaboration of Salla Rimmi and Niilo Sirola, who performed and wrote together for over a decade in the Finnish Celtic folk rock band Greenrose Faire. When the band went on hiatus, the pair continued their musical journey as a duo, performing traditional Irish music and slowly shaping a new sound: Aeldfire.
Drawing inspiration from the forests and fields of their hometown Pirkkala, Finland, Aeldfire blends their earthy Nordic roots to the soul of Celtic folk, combining them with the melodic directness of pop, and the rhythmic whoopah of bluegrass. At the heart of it all is Salla’s vocals, praised for their clarity, warmth, and storytelling power while Niilo's variety of stringed, acoustic instruments create an organic, raw, and authentic sound to Aeldfire's music. To enrich the texture even more, Aeldfire welcomes guest musicians on e.g. accordion, violin, tin whistle and double bass. These wonderful artists lend their talent to bring the songs fully to life, adding depth and new textures with every collaboration.
The lyrics of Aeldfire tell stories of love, hope, nature and the wonders of life, with the occasional fairytale or drinking song woven in. Their songs illuminate the darker corners of existence, offering both comfort and joy.
On stage, Aeldfire transitions effortlessly between intimate folk clubs and larger festival stages. Whether drawing the audience into a tear-jerking ballad or lifting spirits with foot-stomping, hand-clapping joy, their performances are guided by a deep love of storytelling and connection.
Looking ahead, Aeldfire is preparing to release their debut EP in fall 2025 through OOB Records, with a full-length album planned for 2026.
Salla Rimmi
Salla Rimmi, the voice of Aeldfire, is not just a singer but a passionate storyteller and an entertainer who thrives on connecting with her audience, encouraging them to clap, sing along, and truly engage with the music. Salla loves acoustic instruments and singing in harmony, and feels at home in Aeldfire’s organic soundscape.
As a seasoned music professional and singing teacher, Salla has experience in solo singing, backing vocals, and vocal ensembles, with genres ranging from pop to rock and folk to country. With Aeldfire, she has also taken on a more active role in writing lyrics and composing music, embracing the opportunity to explore new creative sides and challenge herself to grow further as an artist.
In the context of Aeldfire, Salla’s mission is to bring the stories of the songs to life, offering listeners a brief escape from everyday life where they can forget their worries for a while and let the music carry them away. Because at its best, music isn't just something you hear, it's something you feel.
Niilo Sirola
Niilo Sirola is the multi-talented musician and the craftsman of Aeldfire. He likes solid rhythms, nuanced dynamics, building tension, and bass notes.
A prominent figure in Tampere's Irish music circles, Niilo is well-versed also in many other musical styles. His favourite instrument at the moment is the Irish bouzouki, which can be used to play accompaniments, melodies, and harmonies, all at the same time.
Niilo's influence is evident in Aeldfire's music as well as visuals in many different ways.He plays at least a dozen different instruments on the band's recordings contributing to their spacious, layered arrangements. In addition to composing and writing lyrics, Niilo records, mixes, and produces the songs, creating the band's vivid sound palette in his home studio. Niilo also directs the band's music videos and conjures up just the right amount of magic for the images.
